Here is the HPL herd!



At the ISPMB sanctuary in South Dakota, HPL rescued Anna in November 2016 during a blizzard. Since her arrival at HPL, Anna has given birth to a beautiful filly, Sundance, pictured below. Anna will not be available for adoption until Sundance is fully weaned. Adoption fees to be determined.

Arrived Sept. 26, 2016 from Colorado Horse Rescue Network.

Boo, a pony in his early twenties, stands 14hh. Boo is halter-broke, leads, ties, trailers, picks up all 4 feet, has been ridden English and Western, and is still suitable for light riding. He is friendly with children, all around gentle, and loves attention. He does need regular hock injections and Previcox to remain comfortable. He is looking for his forever home! With an adoption fee of only $300, he could be the perfect small addition to your loving home!

A Shetland standing 10.3hh, Dash is a spunky little 13-year-old gentleman. Dash is still shy initially, but once he has been haltered he does wonderfully for everyone. He leads, ties, trailers, and stands like a gentleman for the farrier. He loves to be groomed and loved on. He is not broke to ride or drive. He has made a wonderful companion for a number of horses already and would love to keep your favorite friend company! His adoption fee is $250.



Arrived November 30, 2016. An equine under the ISPMB sanctuary in South Dakota, Elsa was also rescued during a blizzard and arrived at HPL with an unknown age. We believe her to be in foal, and are currently working on getting her gentled down so we can give her and her possible foal better medical care and future. Adoption fee to be determined.


A handsome 1996 model, General is a grade gelding that came from Camp Cheley in Estes Park. He is friendly and cute with lovely coloring and enjoys all the attention he can get. He is currently receiving corrective shoeing and “Bute” (phenylbutazone) for his advanced ringbone and arthritis. He loves being around other horses and enjoys being turned out on pasture. His adoption fee to a loving forever home is $200.



This 2015 gelding is extremely friendly and attentive. He is halter broke and progressing very quickly with more work. He loads, leads, ties, and absolutely loves people. This HPL favorite won’t last long with an adoption fee of only $250.


This eye-catching mare is a 1999 model. She stands 14hh and loves attention. She is halter-broke, grooms, leads, ties, and is broke to ride with an experienced rider/handler. Glory is friendly, affectionate, willing, and hopes to find her forever home with someone who loves the trails as much as she does! This beautiful girl’s adoption fee is to be determined.


Gracie Companion Only

Beautiful horse, Adoption Fee – $200

Gracie, a 12-year-old Arabian mare, came to us through Jefferson County Animal Control very underweight and in overall poor health. She stands to be haltered, brushed, and has very nice ground manners. Companion only. Born 2004, Gracie is Jackie’s daughter.



Born 1993, Arabian, Companion, Mare, Adoption Fee – $200

Jackie came to us through Jefferson County Animal Control very underweight and in overall poor health. She has trust issues and needs a calm but confident handler who provides reassurance and love. Companion only. She stands to be haltered, brushed, and has very nice ground manners. Jackie is Gracie’s mother.



This 2007 Arabian Mare is sound, sane, personable, and intelligent! She is green broke – more training or a very advanced rider is recommended, but she has an outstanding foundation.

This beautiful 2000-model mare stands 16hh and is a registered Appendix Quarter Horse. She is flashy, friendly, and sweet. Lyla is halter broke, can be led, tied, trailered, and groomed. She was broke to ride but an old knee injury means she is suitable only as a pasture mate. She stands for the farrier, loves to be brushed, and generally loves attention. This darling girl wants to have a forever home as a companion for your furry friend. Her adoption fee is only $200.



Born 2004, Registered Quarter Horse, mare, 15 hands.

Mattie, a 10-year-old registered Quarter Horse mare, came to us unwanted and sick. She is now healthy and rideable. Great horse for an experienced rider!


Nina Adopted!

This 2015 filly is halter broke and willing. She’s athletic and intelligent with a lovely build.



1992 Appaloosa gelding that will be evaluated soon! He is 15hh and said to be kid broke.


Princess HPL mascot.

Princess, a 18-year-old miniature horse mare, is one of the smallest equines at HPL. She is only 9:2 hands in height, but she is very big in personality! She represents HPL at events and parades and sometimes wears a tiara, to the delight of the onlookers. She loves the attention and is used in educational programs at the ranch, for both children and adults.


Raja Companion Only.

Born 1994, Registered Black Arabian, gelding Adoption Fee – $200

Raja came to us from an owner who could no longer keep him. Raja has good ground manners, is playful, and requires consistent farrier work. He is beautiful and easy to love. Born 1994, registered black Arabian gelding.



Thoroughbred colt

Ranger, a Thoroughbred colt, came to HPL in August 2014 as a yearling. He was found roaming the streets in poor health and was never claimed. He has recovered since arriving at HPL. Ranger has done groundwork, and recently completed training under saddle. He is playful and fun.


Romeo Companion Only.

Early twenties, Arabian, Gelding Size: 14:1 hh, Adoption Fee – $200

Romeo came to HPL in 2003 from an owner who could no longer care for him. He is a handsome and proud Arabian. Romeo was shown in Level 2 Dressage. Even though he is no longer rideable, he loves ground-work and has good ground manners. An ideal home for Romeo would be one with other companions and a lot of love.


Rooster ADOPTED!

15.3 HH, 11 years old, Quarter Horse gelding – 

Rooster has been evaluated by our trainer and would make a nice beginner level/husband’s horse. He is a gentle giant and loves attention. Rooster is missing an eye due to an old injury but it doesn’t bother him a bit. He is a volunteer favorite but would love to find a home of his own.



Miniature mule, eight years old.

He is an eight-year-old miniature mule, and came to us when HPL received an e-mail from a concerned citizen. Rudy has some trust issues, but is progressing with the help of a trainer who works specifically with donkeys and mules. Thanks Michelle and donors for your concern and generosity.

Quarter Horse, 14:3 hands high, Mare
Adoption Fee – $300

Sara Jane is a 7-year-old mare that came to us from another Colorado rescue. She is friendly and loveable. She can be a companion horse only. She is currently at a foster home.

Striker ADOPTED!

A flashy 2008 model, Striker stands 15hh and is an unbranded Mustang. He was born on the 3 Strikes Ranch in Nebraska and was rescued by HPL as a weanling. He is halter broke, leads, ties, trailers, and is broke to ride western for an advanced rider. He is still in training here at HPL and continues to improve. Striker would flourish with a human to call his own, and a rider who could dedicate their time to him. His adoption fee to a forever home is only $800 for this handsome lover!



This handsome bay gelding is friendly and personable, along with very, very gentle. Halter, groom, saddle, ride out, Walter does it all! This level-minded gentleman is in his mid twenties.


Daisy HPL Mascot.

Millie is 6 years old and came from Long Hopes Donkey Rescue in Colorado. She loves to bray (“talk”) and is easy to handle. Both are jennets (female donkeys) and are used in many of HPL’s educational programs.

Daisy is 5 years old and was the first burro (donkey) to arrive at HPL. She was rescued at Canyon City through the Bureau of Land Management adoption program. She loves to be groomed.
